He’s working overtime to help those affected by the earthquake in Haiti, and Wyclef Jean says his Yele organization has always been on the up and up.

During a news conference yesterday, the Fugees hitmaker tearfully defended his charity, saying that while they’ve had a few slip-ups, they’re definitely not corrupt.

“Did we make mistakes? Yes. Did I ever use any of Yele’s money for personal benefits? Absolutely not,” Jean declared. "Yele's books are open and transparent, and we have been a clean bill of health by an external auditor every year since we started."

Wyclef was reacting to a report from the Smoking Gun website that he had used $410,000 from the foundation to pay for rent, production services, and his own appearance at a benefit concert. But he says it’s not true, and is offering the tax records to prove it.
