Washington Roars with Laughter after Joel McHale & President Obama Take the Mic at Correspondents' Dinner
HBO talk show host John Oliver recently told NPR that the White House Correspondents' Dinner is where jokes "go to die," but that certainly wasn't the case during Saturday night's (May 3) event when Joel McHale and President Barack Obama took the stage.
Dazzling the crowd of reporters, politicians and Hollywood stars, both speakers drew out a number of laughs, and to be fair, plenty of duds to the enamoured crowd in the Washington, D.C. Hilton for the 100th annual event.
As for a few of President Obama's best zings, he quipped on his low approval rating stating, "In 2008 my slogan was 'yes we can.' In 2013 my slogan was 'control + alt + delete.'"
The Commander in Chief also threw shade to Fox News, stating, "Let's face it, FOX, you'll miss me when I'm gone. It will be harder to convince the American people that Hillary [Clinton] was born in Kenya."
And Joel had his fair share of one-liners, throwing jokes at Obama, saying, "I think he's one of the best presidents in history. Definitely in the top 50. Please explain that to Jessica Simpson."
He even had one for the lovely Michelle Obama, joking, "You have been very kind to me and my family, especially when you showed us all how to tear a phone book in half with our bare hands."
