With Tom Hanks' "Captain Phillips" continuing to gain more attention this award season, Columbus Pictures announced the exciting biopic is being re-released into 1,000 American movie theaters today (January 15).
Directed by Paul Greengrass, the film has earned close to $213 million worldwide since opening October 10 and has received numerous nominations including Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Leading Actor and even won Movie of the Year at the 2014 AFI Awards.
The film is based on the true story of Captain Richard Phillip and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US MV Maersk Alabama, which was the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.
