Tobey Maguire Pulls Out of “Spider-Man 4”
In the midst of his movie career, Tobey Maguire has reportedly decided to pull out of “Spider-Man 4.”
The “Brothers” actor, who has played Spiderman and Peter Parker in the last three movies, along with film director Sam Raimi, will not be joining after a conflict over the script.
“While Tobey and I were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job,” Sam said.
Meanwhile, Sony Pictures is assuring that the project will continue on but be released in 2012 instead of next year, and be a prequel about Peter Parker as a teenager instead. This means Kirsten Dunst will also not be back on set.
Director Sam has hinted that they wanted to go into a different direction. “I’ve been talking with Tobey about where his character might grow to in this installment. Parker started as a little bit of a selfish, naive and insecure high school kid … In the second picture, he wrestled with his personal fulfilment versus that responsibility and, in the third film, I think it was a little bit about his growing hubris.”
