NBC to Follow “Sound of Music Live” Success with Another Live Musical!
It was a risky move to try and pull off a live version of the classic “The Sound of Music,” but NBC’s moxy ended up paying off big time.
With 18.6 million viewers, last week’s event also sparked half-a-million tweets, though lead star Carrie Underwood was largely panned for a flat acting performance.
Still, NBC has already announced they’ll develop another live holiday musical project for 2014, with producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron sorting through potential ideas.
The leading candidate is said to be “Peter Pan,” though NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt hasn’t made any final decisions. He told press, "All weekend, people have been calling us and e-mailing us. Rights holders of musicals have said, 'Please do one of our shows.' We're excited to try it again."
