Meryl Streep to Play Alongside Carey Mulligan in "Suffragette"
Finalizing the details for her latest film endeavor, Meryl Streep is set to star as political activist Emmeline Pankhurst in the upcoming drama, "Suffragette."
A project of Ruby Films, "Suffragette" also stars Carey Mulligan, and will begin filming this coming Monday.
Slated for release this year, the movie's synopsis states, "As the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State."
The "August: Osage County" starlet's true-to-life character, Pankhurst, was the leader of the British suffragette movement, founding the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU) in the early 1900's.
