Just days before his latest movie hits theaters, Steve Carell made an appearance on "Good Morning America" to amp up promotions for "Hope Springs" in New York City today (August 6).

Looking a little grey around the hairline, "The Office" actor gave cameras a friendly smile as he made his way into the building wearing a black blazer over a purple button-up, paired with jeans and black dress shoes.

Sitting down with George Stephanopoulos, the 49-year-old actor opened up about his role as a therapist who helps a middle-aged couple ( Tommy Lee Jones and Meryl Streep) work with their relationship through a week-long counseling session.

Regarding his character, Steve admitted, "When I read it I didn't think it was necessarily a comedic character," but then quickly credited his co-stars Tommy and Meryl saying, "They're carrying the comedy in this. It's really about their level of discomfort and their attempt to connect to one another."

While preparing for the role Mr. Carell revealed, "I spoke to therapists and I sort of modeled after one guy that I met who is very gentle but sort of stealthy good at what he did and he wasn't like a very showy therapist but he had amazing results."
