It's been almost two years since Shia LaBeouf and Carey Mulligan called it quits on their Hollywood romance, but now the 26-year-old is finally opening up about why it just didn't work out.

In a recent interview with the Sunday Times magazine, the "Lawless" actor explained that their lifestyles didn't quite match up, saying, "Carey is not just an actress, she is a great human being, a sweet girl and super intelligent. Our thing came down to not having compatible work/lifestyles." He added, "[w]e were always traveling, and had sensibility differences that weren't conducive to living with one another."

Explaining more about the differences, Shia continued, "I'm harder on myself and my surroundings than she is, and we had a culture shock in terms of meeting her parents and vice versa. Sensibilities, cultures, histories. There were differences, that's all."

After their split, Mulligan moved on with Mumford & Sons lead singer Marcus Mumford, whom she married in April of this year. Former Disney star Shia says that he couldn't be happier that she found happiness, gushing, "She's happy as hell right now, and we wouldn't have been able to make it like that. She was chasing marriage, family, kids more than I was."

Now Shia is dating fashion designer Karolyn Pho and says that marriage is something he sees in his future, just not too quickly, clarifying, "I'm not opposed to marriage. I just think I'm quite young," he said. "I come from divorce. I'm only doing marriage once. It's not a game for me. I'm not a religious person, but I have ethics."
