They made headlines last month by hiring the first African-American female cast member in years, and now “Saturday Night Live” has also added two black women to their writing team as well.

Following the addition of comedian Sasheer Zamata to the roster, Lorne Michaels and the SNL honchos recruited LaKendra Tookes and Leslie Jones to further diversify the behind-the-scenes staff.

NBC Network spokeswoman Lauren Roseman explained that the show is trying to focus on representing minority women given the recent criticism.

Even black male cast members Jay Pharoah and Kenan Thompson protested the one-sided cast by refusing to dress in drag to portray African-American ladies in sketches.
