Police Confirm Robin Williams' Cause of Death: Suicide by Hanging
As the world mourns the loss of acting Robin Williams today (August 12), the Marin County Sheriff's Office revealed details about the late actor's suicide this afternoon.
The coroner's office performed an autopsy revealing that the cause of death was a suicide from asphyxia due to hanging by a belt. Williams was 63 and had suffered for years from periodic bouts of substance abuse and depression. Just last month, Williams announced he was returning to a 12-step treatment program.
According to the press conference, his assistant found Robin sitting upright with a belt around his neck and cut marks on his wrists. There was no note left at the scene.
