Robin Thicke Slammed for Sexist Lyrics in “Blurred Lines”
His latest single “Blurred Lines” is at the top of the charts, but Robin Thicke has earned himself a bad rep due to his inappropriate lyrics and over-the-top music video.
The “Sex Therapy” singer is joined by Pharrell and T.I. in the clip, as well as a bunch of scantily-clad (and topless) women.
Furthermore, Thicke’s props include a series of balloons that spell out “Robin Thicke has a big d***,” while he sings, “I'll give you something big enough to tear your a** in two.”
Daily Beast columnist Tricia Romano blogged, “The subject [of the song] itself is enough to make some female music fans uncomfortable. The song is about how a girl wants crazy wild sex but doesn’t say it - positing that age-old problem where men think no means yes into a catchy, hummable song.”
And back in April, a feminist blog lamented, “Has anyone heard Robin Thicke's new rape song? Basically, the majority of the song … has the R&B singer murmuring ‘I know you want it’ over and over into a girl’s ear.”
