Prince Sues 22 Alleged Bootleggers for $1 Million Each
Teaching those who refuse to follow music copyright laws a lesson, Prince is suing 22 alleged bootleggers for $1 million dollars each.
On Monday (January 27), the 55-year-old pop icon filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against 22 of his online fans for allegedly posting links to illegal downloads for his live performances.
"The Defendants in this case engage in massive infringement and bootlegging of Prince's material," the lawsuit explained. "Prince has suffered and is continuing to suffer damages in an amount according to proof, but no less than $1 million per Defendent."
The document continued, "Defendant rely on either Google's Blogger platform on Facebook, or both, to accomplish their unlawful activity."
"Rather than publishing lawful content to their blogs, they typically published posts that list all the songs performed at a certain Prince live show and then provide link to a file-sharing service where unauthorized copies of the performance can be downloaded," it added.
