Paula Deen Makes First Public Appearance Since Scandal
After shying away from the spotlight since she became embroiled in a scandal involving the N-word, Paula Deen made her first public appearance at the Metropolitan Cooking & Entertainment Show in Houston, TX on Saturday (September 14).
The Southern cook received a standing ovation when she was introduced to the crowd of nearly 1500 spectators on hand for her cooking demonstrations.
Breaking down in tears at the reception, the 66-year-old told those gathered, “These are tears of joy, y'all. This is my first time out in three months."
"I've said all along that the one place I'd want to make my first step back out is Texas," she continued. "Y'all's hearts are as big as your state."
In May, Ms. Deen admitted in a deposition to using the N-word in the past, an admission that cost her endorsement deals with major retailers and her spot on the Food Network.
Late last month, a judge dismissed the suit against Paula, saying the plaintiff was a “accidental victim.”
