NBC Gives Octavia Spencer’s “Murder, She Wrote” the Kibosh
Viewers fell in love with Angela Lansbury as she starred in the original “Murder, She Wrote” series from 1984 to 1996, and it seems Octavia Spencer won’t have a chance to revamp the beloved show after all.
According to a report, NBC has decided not to move forward with their previously-approved reboot, despite a successful pilot last fall.
When she learned of the new series, 88-year-old Lansbury failed to give her blessing as she felt the project was too dissimilar to the original to use the same moniker.
"I think it's a mistake to call it Murder, She Wrote because Murder, She Wrote will always be about Cabot Cove and this wonderful little group of people who told those lovely stories and enjoyed a piece of that place, and also enjoyed Jessica Fletcher, who is a rare and very individual kind of person.”
