Assembling legions of female fans, a petition to add Jennifer Lawrence's character in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" to the list of MTV Movie Award nominations for Best Hero was recently launched.

Last week, it was revealed that all five candidates were male, namely: Henry Cavill as Clark Kent in "Man of Steel," Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man in "Iron Man 3," Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," Chris Hemsworth as Thor in "Thor: The Dark World," and Channing Tatum as John Cale in "White House Down."

The Care2 petition reads in part, "Young women already have too few female heroes represented in film and television. We’re constantly shown by the entertainment industry that men are brave, powerful, or successful, while women are often given supporting roles and weak characters." Over 10,000 signatures have already been collected.

Fans are invited to sign on before April 13th. The 2014 MTV Movie Awards, hosted by Conan O'Brien, will take place on that night at 9:00pm ET on MTV.
