"Divergent" Dominates at the Box Office in Opening Weekend

Coming as a surprise to few, "Divergent" is stealing the show at the box office for the weekend of March 21-23, 2014.

The Shailene Woodley fronted sci-fi action film scooped up a $22.8 million opening day and will wind up with a three day total of $57 million.

Taking second place is the new adventure comedy "Muppets Most Wanted." The furry friends and their human counterparts, which include Tina Fey and Ty Burrell, nabbed $4.6 million on Friday and is expected to end the weekend with a $17 million total.

Rounding out the top five in earmarked earnings are Dreamworks' animated adventure "Mr. Peabody and Sherman" ($12 million) in third, the new family film "God's Not Dead" ($8.9 million) in fourth, and fantasy drama "300: Rise of an Empire" ($8.6 million) in fifth.
