Box Office: "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" Opens at Number One
Half-shelled heroes were tops with movie fans this weekend, as "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" took first place at the box office for August 8-10, 2014.
The new action-adventure film took in $27.5 million on Friday, and will end the three day period with at take of $65 million.
Last week's number one, "Guardians of the Galaxy" was relegated to second place. The Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana fronted sci-fi thriller had a $12.3 million Friday and a $42 million weekend.
Rounding out the top five in earmarked earnings were newcomer "Into the Storm" ($18 million) in third, the drama "The Hundred-Foot Journey" ($11.5 million) in fourth, and "Lucy" ($9.2 million).
