Box Office: "Ted" Laughs Its Way to the Top Spot
With movie-goers pledging their hard earned cash to raunchy comedy entertainment, "Ted" stormed into theaters in an impressive fashion while shooting atop the box office over the weekend of June 29-July 1, 2012.
The Mark Wahlberg/Mila Kunis starring talking teddy bear film directed by Seth MacFarlane grabbed up $20.5 million on opening day followed by a $18 million Saturday en route to an estimated $52.5 million total.
Meanwhile, another just-released motion picture snapped up runner-up honors, as the Steven Soderbergh directed stripper movie "Magic Mike" - which stars Channing Tatum alongside Matthew McConaughey - pulled in $18 million on Friday and $10.7 million on Saturday with a predicted opening weekend take of $38 million.
Rounding out the top five at the box office in estimated totals are last weekend's big winner "Brave" ($35.5 million), followed by Tyler Perry's cinema newcomer "Madea’s Witness Protection" ($27 million) and DreamWorks Animation's family friendly adventure "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted" ($12.5 million).
