Box Office: "The Hunger Games" Tops "Titans" & "Mirror Mirror"
Holding off strong showings by two newly released contestants, "The Hunger Games" continued its dominant performance by remaining in the top spot at the box office over the weekend of March 30-April 1, 2012.
The Jennifer Lawrence starring Sci-Fi/Action/Drama film based on Suzanne Collins' best-selling book raked in an estimated $18.8 million on Friday and another $26.2 million on Saturday with its second weekend total predicted to wind up at a solid $63.5 million - which puts its cume past the $250 million mark.
Pitching in on another big weekend for Hollywood is runner-up "Wrath of the Titans," as the Sam Worthington starring action/adventure film is on track to score a $12.4 million opening day followed up by a $13 million Saturday while trending towards a debut weekend gross of $34.6 million.
Rounding out the top five at the box office in estimated totals are the Julia Roberts/Lily Collins led Snow White tale "Mirror Mirror" ($19.3 million), followed by Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill's comedy caper "21 Jump Street" ($14.8 million) and the animated Dr. Seuss family flick "The Lorax" ($8.3 million).
