Box Office: "The Hunger Games" Edges Out "The Three Strooges"
Edging out the competition for the fourth week in a row, "The Hunger Games" remained in the top spot at the box office to kick off the weekend of April 13-15, 2012.
The Jennifer Lawrence starring Sci-Fi/Action/Drama film based on Suzanne Collins' best-selling book earned an estimated $6.5 million on Friday and another $9.5 million on Saturday with its weekend total predicted to wind up at $21.7 million - which takes the blockbuster's Stateside cume to a whopping $335.7 million!
Entering the box office foray in the runner-up position is Fox's newly released comedy caper "The Three Stooges," as the Farrelly Brothers directed take on the classic trio nabbed $5.6 million on opening day followed by a second day pull of $6.9 million with an anticipated first weekend gross of $17.1 million.
Rounding out the top five at the box office in estimated totals are fellow newcomer "The Cabin In the Woods" ($15.1 million), followed by "Titanic 3D" ($11.4 million) and the "American Pie" franchise follow-up "American Reunion" ($10.6 million).
