Blasting away the competition, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” is projected to take home the top spot at the box office for the holiday weekend of March 29-31, 2013.

The Bruce Willis, Channing Tatum, and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson action flick took in $15.5 million on Friday, and is expected to rack up $40.0 million for it’s freshman weekend.

Slipping down a spot to second place was the Ryan Reynolds- and Emma Stone-voiced tale, “The Croods,” with a $10.7 million sophomore Friday, on track to pull in total take of $26.8 million.

Rounding out the projected top five in estimated earnings are “Tyler Perry’s Temptation” ($21.7 million) in third, “Twilight” author Stephanie Meyer’s alien invasion adaptation, “The Host” ($12.3 million), in fourth, and the Gerard Butler-fronted action flick “Olympus Has Fallen” ($13.7 million) in fifth.
