Box Office: "Act of Valor" Outguns the Competition
Gunning its way straight to the top, the newly released movie "Act of Valor" has taken ahold of the top spot at the box office to kick off the weekend of February 24-26, 2012.
The Navy SEALs featuring film generated plenty of buzz, especially for male moviegoers, while pulling in $9 million on opening day and another $9.5 million on Saturday for an estimated debut weekend total of $24.5 million.
Situated in second place is another theatrical newbie in Tyler Perry's "Good Deeds," with the romantic dramedy garnering $5.3 million on Friday and $6.8 million on Saturday for an anticipated weekend total of $16 million.
Rounding out the top five at the box office in estimated weekend totals are the Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens and Dwayne Johnson starring family adventure "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" ($13.1 million), followed by Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds' crime/thriller "Safe House" ($11 million) and the Rachel McAdams/Channing Tatum romance flick "The Vow" ($10 million).
Also of note, Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd's cinema newcomer "Wanderlust" has gotten off to a slow start after receiving less than favorable reviews from the majority of major publications - as it's sitting in eighth place while tracking towards a $5.8 million first weekend of release.
