Nina Davuluri Nabs Miss America Title!
She’s the first contestant of Indian heritage to end up in the winner’s circle, and Nina Davuluri was named 2014 Miss America last night (September 15).
With a platform of “celebrating diversity thorough cultural competency talent,” the 24-year-old Miss New York was overjoyed to hear her name called at the conclusion of the competition.
After being crowned, Nina gushed, “I haven’t even had time to get emotional. I haven’t even had time to speak to my parents yet.”
And while the $50,000 scholarship will come in handy, Davuluri noted that the win is about so much more than that- “I’m most excited to promote my platform, I was the first Indian Miss New York and I’m so proud to be the first Indian Miss America.”
