Matt Lauer Temporarily Takes Over Bob Costas' Olympic Coverage
Taking on an exciting new role, Matt Lauer is filling in for fellow NBC-report Bob Costas during the network's Sochi Olympics coverage.
NBC made the announcement on Tuesday (February 11) after the seasoned sports reporter came down with a nasty eye infection, preventing him from performing his duties.
"Let's hope it's only tonight," Costas told Lauer live on Today this morning. "I'm walking around, I might as well be playing 'Marco Polo.' I have no idea where I am."
The temporary switch is pretty remarkable, considering Costas has been the go-to Olympics reporter since 1998 for both the Summer and Winter games.
But not to fear, Bob definitely has a sense of humor about the whole ordeal and shared a vodka toast with his correspondent Mary Carillo late last night and said, "I'm looking at it this way ... my eyes can't get any redder."
