She’s one of the top skiers in the world, so it was especially hard for Lindsey Vonn to sit the bench for the upcoming 2014 Winter Games.

The 29-year-old gold medalist chatted with “Today” anchor Matt Lauer this morning (January 28) about the whole situation with her knee.

"After making the decision not to compete in Sochi, I have actually committed myself to racing through to the next Olympics [the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea]. I'm very motivated. I have a lot that I want to accomplish still. I'm going to take my time. I felt a little bit rushed last time, trying to be back and ready for Sochi. I'm not going to probably ski until October."

Lindsey also commented on her new gig as an Olympic correspondent for NBC and “Today”- "I'll tell you what I'm not looking forward to is waking up this early. I've never done something like this before, and I'm looking forward to this new challenge."
