Katie Couric Reveals Past Struggle with Eating Disorder
Speaking with an eating disorders expert on her new talk show, Katie Couric shockingly revealed her own past struggles with bulimia.
On Monday, the 55-year-old journalist invited Dr. Cynthia Bulik to talk about eating disorders. During the episode, Katie admitted, "Dr. Bulik, I imagine that these things are very familiar to you. I wrestled with bulimia all through college and for two years after that."
She candidly added, "I know this rigidity, this feeling that if you eat one thing that's wrong, you're full of self-loathing and then you punish yourself, whether it's one cookie or a stick of gum that isn't sugarless, that I would sometimes beat myself up for that."
Though the mother of two refrained from delving further into her own experiences, Dr. Bulik had some encouraging words for viewers. "Just the honesty behind saying, 'Yeah, I do still struggle. And these thoughts do come into my mind sometimes.' . . . Just knowing that you can get past that . . .that's what it's all about."
