Joran van der Sloot: Confession to Stand
While he made a sudden attempt to change his story, a Peruvian court has ruled that Joran van der Sloot's confession will stand in trial.
The 22-year-old Dutchman previously admitted to killing business student Stephany Flores - a statement which his lawyer said was taken in an unconstitutional manner.
Of the situation, van der Sloot spoke to Dutch media from his maximum-security Miguel Castro Castro prison cell, saying, "I was very scared and confused during the interrogations and wanted to get away. In my blind panic, I signed everything but didn't even know what it said."
Nonetheless, Lima police insist that their questioning "took place in accordance with established standards, in the presence of a prosecutor and a government-appointed attorney."
Joran's attorney says he will continue to fight the court's ruling - though the case-determining confession is to be allowed in the prosecution's case at this time.
