Jay Z: Alleged Extortion Plot Victim
He thought some valuable master tapes were lost forever, but now Jay Z has learned that a music producer knew right where they were all along.
According to TMZ, $20 million in master recordings went missing from the singer's Roc-A-Fella Records in 2002 and were thought to be lost, but last week producer Chauncey Mahan contacted Live Nation to say he had the tapes.
Allegedly, Mr. Mahan said the recordings would be auctioned unless Live Nation paid him a $100,000 “storage fee.”
Though he was not arrested, Mahan is being investigated for extortion and Jay Z has filed a grand larceny complaint.
