Jay Leno Hit With Lawsuit from Sikh
It goes without saying that nothing is sacred when it comes to late night television comedy, but apparently Jay Leno stepped over the line with a recent comment involving a Sikh landmark.
Last Thursday (January 19) the “Tonight Show” host jabbed Mitt Romney’s affluence by flashing a picture of the Golden Temple in Amritsar, India and calling the Sikh shrine Romney’s summer home.
And earlier this week, Dr. Randeep Dhillon filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court on behalf of himself and Bol Punjabi All Regions Community Organization claiming that Leno’s use of the Golden Temple image was damaging to Sikhs because it “hurt the sentiments of all Sikh people in addition to those of the plaintiff.”
As a result, the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” is being asked to pay general, special, and punitive damages as well as court costs. Another Sikh leader is also seeking an apology from Leno.
