“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” Scores Big On Opening Night

It may have missed the Golden Globe cut, but “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” is more than making up for the loss with big numbers so far.

The Peter Jackson flick opened at midnight last night (December 13) and has already brought in $13 million in ticket sales, making it the biggest December midnight screening ever.

Based on those numbers, the first installment of the “Hobbit” franchise is on course to snag upwards of $90 million for the weekend.

If that’s the case, Bilbo and his buddies will eclipse Will Smith’s “I Am Legend” that set a December opening weekend record back in 2007 with $77.2 million.
