“Guardians of the Galaxy” Posts $11.2 Million for Thursday Opening
It’s the biggest Thursday evening kickoff of 2014 and “Guardians of the Galaxy” raked in an impressive $11.2 million last night (July 31).
The much-anticipated Disney/Marvel project will expand into 4,080 theaters as of today (August 1) and is expected to have a stellar weekend.
In addition to the $11.2 million domestic take, “Guardians” also nabbed approximately $11 million in 42 markets overseas.
And given that “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Godzilla” and “Transformers: Age of Extinction” all made less than “Galaxy,” insiders are predicting numbers in excess of $100 million by the time Monday rolls around.
