Taking his career on a new path, Sam Champion announced that he is leaving “Good Morning America” after a seven year run.

The fan-favorite weatherman is moving to The Weather Channel’s “Q1” morning show next year, and will also hold the role as managing editor for the channel.

Newcomer and former Chicago NBC talent Ginger Zee will take over Sam’s “GMA” spot.

This news comes as the top rated morning program negotiated its lead anchors contracts including Robin Roberts, Josh Elliott and Lara Spencer.

“While there is no replacing Sam, we are in excellent hands with his storm chasing partner of the last few years, meteorologist Ginger Zee, who will take over his weather responsibilities at GMA and across ABC News,” ABC News President Ben Sherwood said in a statement.
