Things have been heated on “The View” as of late, and Barbara Walters issued an apology for some of her remarks during a visit from “20/20” journalist Elizabeth Vargas.

When discussing her decision to enter a rehabilitation program to deal with her alcoholism, the 51-year-old anchor received some not-so-sensitive words from Ms. Walters.

Co-host Jenny McCarthy asked, “What finally happened that made you say, ‘Okay, it’s time to get help?’” Vargas replied, “Well, I showed up for a shoot on 20/20 and I was in no condition to shoot that interview.”

Barbara fired off, “Well, we knew. I'm very fond of Elizabeth and very proud of her. We knew, but that's not the same as finally, in that sense, hitting the bottom."

McCarthy continued, "No, but what triggered her to say, 'It's time for me . . . '" before Walters interrupted again, “It was public at that point.”

Elizabeth stood her ground, declaring, “No, it wasn’t.” Walters objected, “No, but we all knew.”

After the interview, Barbara told the New York Post’s Page Six, "I love Elizabeth and have great admiration for her. I never would have deliberately said anything to hurt her, and I called to tell her that."

Vergas replied, "This is silly! Barbara is a colleague and a friend."
