He announced his retirement last week, and now David Letterman reveals his thoughts on his "Late Show" successor Stephen Colbert.

Immediately after news about the "Colbert Report" star broke on Thursday (April 10), Letterman issued a statement regarding CBS' decision to hire the Comedy Central host.

David wrote, "Stephen has always been a real friend to me. I've very excited for him, and I'm flattered that CBS chose him, and I'm flattered that CBS chose him. I also happen to know they wanted another guy with glasses."

Colbert is set to take over the "Late Show" duties in 2015 and the "Colbert Report" is set to end in December.
