Anita Baker: In Trouble with the Law
Making for quite the unfortunate situation, Anita Baker is battling the law over a issue that arose three years ago.
According to the Detroit Free Press, a bench warrant was issued for the 56-year-old singer after failing to appear at a creditor’s examination this past year as part of a lawsuit.
The Grammy winner was accused of not paying a local painting and decorating company $15,000 for work that was done to her Grosse Point, Michigan home.
Shocked by the latest news, Miss Baker took to her Twitter account and wrote, “WHATTT??!!... sittin’ in the kitchen watching this on TV. BIG time crazy. Atty on his way to TV station. Devil sho is busy.”
Attorney representing Ray Smith Painting and Decorating Daniel Gerow told ClickonDetroit.com, “We’re not trying to give her any hard time or anything unnecessary. We just would like to collect the money for my client.”
He also told the Free Press that Anita was ordered to pay his client, $15, 351.21 in 2011 in a default judgment for carpentry, plastering and painting work.
