Alex Karras Dies at 77
He was the definition of a multi-tasker, with careers in both film and pro sports, and sadly Alex Karras has passed away.
The former Detroit Lions defensive lineman had parlayed his football fame into an acting career after he retired from the NFL.
Karras was best known in the Tinseltown realm as George Papadapolis, the father of Emmanuel Lewis’ “Webster.” He also had roles in “Porky’s” and “Blazing Saddles.
Detroit Lions president Tom Lewand declared, ''Perhaps no player in Lions history attained as much success and notoriety for what he did after his playing days as did Alex.”
Karras died of complications from kidney failure and was surrounded by family at his Los Angeles home. He was 77.
