With the huge success of "The Avengers," Joss Whedon pretty much has his pick of projects. Disney announced today (August 7) that he will both write and direct the sequel "Avengers 2."

Also on Whedon's plate will be a live action TV series featuring Marvel characters for the ABC network.

Adopting the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" method, Disney hopes to insure that the sequel won't fall the way of countless other disappointing followups. The sequel will once again star Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo.

The first installment of "The Avengers" made over $600 million domestically and over $1.46 billion worldwide. It became the top selling movie of 2012 and third biggest ever behind only Avatar and Titanic.
