Weeding out the good from the great, Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr selected the top 15 female contestants last night (February 12) on “American Idol.”

And when M.K. Nobilette showed up to learn her fate, she unwittingly became the first openly gay contestant in the show’s history.

Nobilette declared, “I’m very obviously gay, and there are always gonna be people in America and everywhere else who will definitely hate me, but I think that in the last two years there have been a lot of things that have really changed that.”

In response J. Lo affirmed, “The world is changing. We think you could be an American Idol.”

“You belong here,” added Connick Jr.
