"The Amazing Spider-Man" Sets New Box Office Record
Having just made a grand entrance into theaters, "The Amazing Spider-Man" turned up an amazingly solid box office showing - setting a new record for a Tuesday debut.
The Sony Pictures film starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone raked in $35 million for the Tuesday opening, easily blowing by the previous record holder.
The Marc Webb directed Marvel film beat out Michael Bay's "Transformers" - which claimed the record Tuesday opening in 2007 with $27.8 million.
The action-superhero flick also toppled previous predictions of a $27 to 30 million opening day and it's looking like "The Amazing Spider-Man" might match up, if not beat, the May 4, 2007 opening day of "Spider-Man 3"- which took in $59.8 million for it's opening day while ending up with a record-setting first weekend take of $151 million.
