He’s up for all kinds of awards for his role in “12 Years A Slave,” but Chiwetel Ejio has been overshadowed by his supporting actors in new promotional posters in Italy.

BIM Distribuzione denies any racist intentions and has issued an apology for making Ejiofor’s image much smaller than that of white actors Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender in their artwork.

“The inappropriate materials have now been withdrawn. [We changed the design to give a] wide representation of what is told in the film itself. We regret any distraction this incident may have caused.”

As a result, BIM has issued new posters that look very similar to those distributed in the USA. “12 Years A Slave” hits Italian theaters in February 2014.
